Evidently, drunk drivers are using twitter to alert each other about sobriety checkpoints – story here and here. What I find absolutely incredible is a defense of this practice that comes up in both stories.
Still, according to The Seattle Times, some think that there’s no difference between tweeting about a checkpoint and the police department’s own promotion of the security measure (police basically inform citizens that they will be enforced, but decline to give specific locations).
Seriously. Someone thinks this is an adequate defense.
I didn’t believe it either. I thought, “Surely, no one thinks this,” but when I clicked on a link to the Seattle Times story, I discovered that not only did someone offer up this defense, but the guy is an attorney in Fresno.
Oh, Fresno.
