There’s a lot of surveying going on in philosophy, and it’s not the X-Phi guys. All of these surveys are designed to generate interesting data about the profession.

  1. Survey on Publishing in Philosophy
Sally Haslinger is gathering data about publishing in philosophy. Word on the street is that she’ll report about the results at the Eastern APA.
  2. The Philosophy Survey
The PhilPapers crew are running a survey to determine what the distribution of philosophical views is among philosophers. It would be cool to know what percentage of philosophers are materialists, theists, moral realists, etc…I believe that’s one of the goals.
  3. Northern Institute of Philosophy (Market Research Survey)
The Northern Institute of Philosophy is looking to gather information to determine the viability of what appears to be an Analysis-esque journal. Suggestion: you could tell them that you’d like it to be open-access.

They all seem like they’re designed to generate data that would be worth having. I hope some of you will take the time to fill them  out.
