One thing I have absolutely no patience for is expandable advertisements. These are those banners that expand when the cursor runs across them.

When I first signed up with the banner adnetwork, I set my permissions so that those were prohibited from this site. But looking at my site over the past few days, I’ve noticed that they’re still making it through the filter. I think I found the culprit. There’s an ad company on the network, and for some reason their ads are making it through the filter. It’s been reported to the ad network by several people on the forums.

In any case, I apologize for those intrusions. If that happens to any of you, please feel free to let me know – I’ll go in and block it straight away.

On a Lighter NoteI already have a bit of confirmation that a philosophy blog or website can enough revenue to support server costs and have leftover for other professional development costs. A site that received a lot more traffic than mine (e.g. a high quality journal) might be able to generate enough revenue to be a completely self-sustaining operation. I’m going to let it go for a couple of months, and report back.  I’ll also post detailed information about what I’ve learned about the ad side of blogging, and explain which strategies I think philosophers ought to avoid.
